

Canberra, Australia's capital city is the countries only major inland city, located in the Brindabella Ranges and has a population of nearly 300 000. The city's construction was planned from the beginning being built halfway between Sydney and Melbourne after a dispute over which would become the nation's capital.
Canberra Day is held on the third Monday in March each year. It is the finale of a 10 day Celebrate Canberra festival where the locals are able to celebrate the astounding beauty, and cultural diversity and vivacity of their city. The Day commemorates and celebrates the official beginnings of Canberra on 12 March 1913. The Canberra Citizen of the Year is named at this time.

The Molonglo River flows through Canberra and at on point has been artificially widened to form Lake Burley Griffin. This is a lake in the centre of the Australian federal capital city of Canberra and was constructed in 1963 after the Molonglo River which runs through the city centre was dammed. The lake was named after Canberra's designer, Walter Burley Griffin.
