20 December 2006 'Big growth' expected for travel to Oz
UK holidaymakers planning to pick up Australia travel insurance and head abroad in near future may not be travelling alone, as it is reported that the industry expects a large rise in the number of travellers to the country.
Travel services company Thomas Cook reports that while family favourites such as Spain still tend to top the charts and new destinations including Croatia and Bulgaria are growing in popularity, "big growth" is expected for Australia.
Faith Wootton, spokesperson for the company, said: "It is absolutely people's number one top destination on their wish list."
She attributed this growth and rises in traveller numbers to faraway destinations in general to increased affordability of long-haul flights.
Australia travel insurance provider More Than recently reported that the number of Britons heading to Australia in the last six years has jumped by 39 per cent, while the number travelling to New Zealand has increased by 78 per cent.
